Bartley Healthcare Celebrates Their Fourth Annual Family Fun Day
The Bartley Healthcare campus hosted its
fourth annual Family Fun Day on October 2, 2004. Each year this event is
free to the public. Despite the intermittent rain, more than 800 children
and their parents attended the event. You knew there was something special
happening at Bartley Healthcare, as you drove down North County Line Road
and saw the large inflatable rides, carnival food and games, pony rides
and petting zoo, as well as other attractions. Residents from both The
Orchards at Bartley Assisted Living and Bartley Healthcare Nursing and
Rehabilitation mingled among the community and enjoyed watching children
playing on a variety of rides, coloring pumpkins, eating cotton candy,
snow cones and popcorn, creating sand art, riding a pony or shaking hands
with a costume character.
During the event, Bartley Healthcare welcomed donations for the Jackson
Food Pantry, which is managed by The Jackson Women of Today. The event
raised over $400 in monetary donations. Bartley’s has matched the
contributions and presented the Jackson Food Pantry with a check for
$1,000 at their general membership meeting on Monday night.
Non-perishable food items were also collected at the event. “We collected
over six grocery carts of non-perishable food items”, said Elizabeth
Stelevich, Director of the Food Pantry for The Jackson Women of Today. “We
are very grateful to Bartley Healthcare for offering this wonderful event
to support The Jackson Food Pantry. They have been generous contributors
to the Pantry since we moved into the building on 65 Don Connor Boulevard
three years ago. I was truly amazed at the large quantity of food that was
brought to this event. It shows that the Bartley and community spirit of
helping those in need is widespread throughout the community.”
The Jackson Kiwanis Club ran a concession stand at the event and all
proceeds were also donated to The Jackson Food Pantry. A Bartley
Healthcare staff member reported that one little girl brought a small bag
of coins totaling ten dollars from her piggy bank to donate to “feed the
hungry people.”
Bartley Healthcare sponsored this free event as part of their continuing
commitment towards community support. While the population they serve are
seniors, Bartley Healthcare also supports children programs such as The
Jackson High School Scholarship Fund, Baseball, Soccer and Cheerleading
sponsorships and each year is a drop off site for the Toys for Tots
Program. They are also sponsors of the Alzheimer’s Associations annual
Memory Walk. “We are grateful to the Jackson community for supporting this
event with their generous contributions for the Jackson Food Pantry”, said
Trish Mazejy, VP of Business Development, “ This is a great way for the
kids to have fun, while helping to feed their neighbors with their food
contributions.”
