Any person with a chronic lung disease will benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation. Examples of lung conditions include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, chronic bronchitis, or pulmonary fibrosis. Pulmonary rehabilitation may also be ordered to help patients either before or after chest or lung surgery.
The Goals of Pulmonary Rehabilitation are:
- Improve your quality of life
- Improve your ability to do daily living activities
- Help with shortness of breath
- Reduce the need for hospital visits
How can we help manage these pulmonary issues?
Here at Bartley Healthcare, skilled Registered Respiratory Therapists will meet with the patient and family one on one to review the patient’s history, along with the patient’s hospital documentation, to develop a Pulmonary Plan for not only while the patient is here at Bartley but for the patient to follow at home. Incentive Spirometry which teaches you how to take slow deep breaths is one of the many pulmonary exercises we teach our patients. Another vital exercise is Acapella, using an airway clearing device using positive expiratory pressure to remove secretions from the lungs.
Here at Bartley HealthCare we educate our patient and their family about their lung condition, assess and help treat and manage the exercise program. As a patient, you will also be discharged with a program to continue to keep you feeling well. If you or your family member suffer from any type of pulmonary disease, there is hope for rebuilding strength and an active lifestyle through pulmonary rehab!
